The buzz surrounding The Game Awards has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team might be crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, allowing players to experiment both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be solved in diverse methods, often in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.
More to Come
It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
